This week at JRN
Notes from the Editor
Hi {{first_name|JRN Community}},
Welcome back. This week we are delighted to share the work we produced in Boston, where the JRN team worked directly with the Head of the Charles Regatta to produce ‘Beyond the Bridges’, the official video debrief.
It was a genuine privilege. To be trusted with telling the story of the world’s largest rowing event, and to do it from inside the regatta, was a highlight for everyone involved.
The season does not slow down. We also look ahead to the Upper Thames Autumn Head, the Head of the Schuylkill and the Gold Cup, with plenty still to come.
Read on, watch the debrief, and our thanks to the HOCR team for welcoming us so warmly.

PS: If you’re a junior rower who’s interested in heading to the US for college (or the parent of an enthusiastic athlete), we’d love to hear from you here.
Racing Content Recap
🇺🇸 2026 Head of the Charles
Beyond the Bridges is the official review show of the Head of the Charles Regatta. Brought to you in partnership between HOCR and JRN, join Fergus Mainland, Jess Eddie, and Tom Morgan in discussing all of the key themes and narratives from each day of racing.
🇬🇧 2026 Upper Thames Autumn Head
Crews race upstream over roughly 3km of the Henley reach, one of the most recognisable stretches of water in rowing. Upper Thames Autumn Head is an early benchmark of the British head season, drawing club, university, junior and masters crews for morning and afternoon divisions.
🇺🇸 2026 Head of the Schuylkill + Gold Cup
America’s largest regatta takes over the Schuylkill, with thousands of crews racing the 2.5-mile course past Boathouse Row. For the Gold Cup, single scullers race for one of the sport’s oldest prizes. Commissioned in 1920 and first won by John B. Kelly Sr., the Gold Cup was revived in 2011 and now brings elite men and women together for a short-sprint format.
🇦🇺 2026 Loreto Normanhurst Regatta
Loreto Normanhurst hosts the opening regatta of the New South Wales school season, built around the oldest schoolgirl rowing programme in the state. Schoolboy events returned to the programme last year after a decade away.
The Catch-up
Offseason: The Lateral Step

The Canadian women’s quad finishing 11th at the World Rowing Championships is followed by an off-season spent at home rather than abroad. Rest, an unforgiving hip and a list titled “Why I Love Rowing” combine into what Katie Clark calls a lateral step out of the fast lane
We’ve Heard the Rowers, Now Let’s Listen to the Writer: A Conversation with the Producer of Crew Girl

Netflix’s Crew Girl topped the charts and drew sharp criticism from rowers. Writer Vivian Lin explains the harnessed boats, the “coxie” calls and the choices behind Teagan’s story, and invites the rowing community to audition and contribute to season two
